Carers share experiences

CARERS across Rother really are extraordinary people as an exhibition next week proves.

Over the past two years, Sound Architect Creative Media - a charity based in Hadlow Down near Uckfield- has run courses for carers across Rother in ‘Introduction to IT’, ‘Creative Writing’ and ‘Introduction to Digital Photography’.

The courses - funded by the county council - were designed for carers to have an afternoon’s break from their caring role, meet fellow carers and have the opportunity to share their experiences and at the same time learn something useful, enjoyable and relevant to the 21st century.

An exhibition of their work will take place at St Peters Community Centre, Church Street, Old Town, Bexhill, on Tuesday November 23 from 3pm to 4pm. The public is welcome to attend this event, and entrance will be free of charge.

Rachel Lewis, chief executive of Sound Architect Creative Media, said, ‘This is a wonderful display of work by so many creative people who faces daily pressures in life as caring for other people.

Supporting organisations include Care for the Carers, Rethink, East Sussex Carers Support Service, Crossroads Care, Carers Breaks Service, and the local Hospital Trusts.

Sound Architect will be running a further ‘Introduction to IT’ Course for carers locally beginning on January 5, 2011.
