Carnival Pram Race

Quality not quantity - that was Bexhill Carnival Pram Race this week.

Only three teams took part on Tuesday night but what they lacked in numbers they made up for in enthusiasm.

Two returning battlers from last year's inaugural event - the York and The Sportsman - were joined this year by a team from the West Station.

The York took the honours for Prettiest Team in their fetching matching outfits and were also the fastest complete team to cross the finish line.

The pram race sponsor White's Brewing has decided to give each of this year's entered teams a case of mixed beers for their sense of fun and achievement.

Beneficiaries of this year's event will be St Michael's Hospice, Great Ormond Street Children's Charity and Bedfellows. The Pram Race as well as being fun enables teams to not only raise money for Bexhill Carnival but also any charity, recognised club or organisation of their choice, so pencil Tuesday July 20 next year into your diaries, and help establish it as a successful annual event.

Cllr Paul Lendon, who attended the Carnival fundraiser, said: "I think it's a wonderful initiative to get young people involved in. I've been to two events this week, the model boats made out of re-usable plastics, and Tuesday night. It was excellent seeing the different young people putting together very colourful prams.

"I suggested a bit of rivalry between the Hastings Pram Race and Bexhill's might be in order."
