Debra Marshall said a Peugeot 207 owned by her husband Stephen was written off as a result of the damage, while her son Lee’s Audi was pushed six feet down Daux Avenue.

The vehicle that caused the damage did not stop, and has not been located since the incident on Saturday January 16.

Mrs Marshall said the family, who have lived in their house for 14 years, was watching television at about 8.30pm when they heard an ‘almighty crash’ outside.

She said: “We jumped up and thought ‘what on Earth?’ My son came rushing in and said ‘I think there has been an accident’.

Police estimated from the impact it has to be something big because there was no debris from any other car.

“They probably clipped the curb which threw them into our cars.”

The family and officers searched the area but found no clues to what caused the damage.

The impact knocked the Peugeot onto the pavement, and Mrs Marshall said they are still waiting to hear how much damage was caused to the Audi.

She said: “You go between shock and anger. It is horrible.

“Your car is your pride and joy, it is how you get to work, you love it and you take care of it.

“We weren’t injured and the cars can be replaced, but it is personal.”

She added that she believed it was a large vehicle travelling at speed to cause such damage.

She said: “It is devastating to think somebody could cause that sort of devastation and just drive off. It is weird how they just vanished.

“How do you justify doing that? I just hope they didn’t hurt themselves.

“If somebody knocked on our door now and said ‘it was me’, that would be nice. The damage is done, but at least you would know somebody had a conscience.”
