Cartridges converted to trees in Barnham

Pupils at Barnham Primary School are among the first to benefit from a tree-planting project.

The tree was dug into their grounds on Elm Grove as part of an initiative to create greener communities.

It was donated by the Chichester branch of Cartridge World.

Shop manager Samantha Oerlemans pledged to plant a tree for every 25 refilled or remade computer printer cartridges it sold during last year's national tree week.

That campaign prevented 225 cartridges going to landfill and the first organisations have begun to benefit.

A tree to go towards Hotham Park's contribution to Bognor in Bloom has also been handed over by Ms Oerlemans.

She said: "Our customers benefit every day when they come into the store and save themselves some money through using refilled cartridges.

"So, they were very happy to support the campaign and the local community and help save the environment at the same time."
