Cash boost for children's parade

LEWES Town Council has given an extra £500 grant to help to save this year's Lewes children's parade.

The Moving On children's parade, which features more than 600 schoolchildren, is facing a funding crisis after a 5,000 bid was rejected by Arts Council England earlier this month.

The town council discussed the problems facing the event organiser Parents and Teachers in the Arts (PATINA).

The Mayor of Lewes, Cllr Michael Chartier, said: 'There is a major cash crisis facing the organisation which is so serious there is a chance of the event not taking place.'

The town council agreed to give PATINA a hardship grant of 500 to match a previous grant it has already given the group.

PATINA has welcomed the support of the town council and is hopeful that it can attract a major sponsor for the event in July.
