This funding boost from Lloyds Bank Foundation, comes just days after BWC announced it was facing an £80,000 funding cut for its women’s counselling service.

BWC said the grant will go towards a weekly drop-in service offering support for homeless or vulnerably-housed women, including counselling, food and clothes, as well as a housing caseworker.

Lisa Dando, director, Brighton Women’s Centre said: “BWC firmly believes that housing is a human rights issue. Women who are rough sleeping, on average die at the age of 43. This funding will make a difference to these women by addressing their accommodation needs and thus ensuring an equal and fair society.

“By giving every woman the freedom, the support and the power to change her life, we make things better for her, for those around her and for society.”

Paul Streets, chief executive of Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales, said: “With poverty and disadvantage high and rising, local charities like Brighton Women’s Centre are on the front line in their communities offering help to people who need it most.

“We are proud to be able to fund the centre, whose work is so life-changing for these women. We look forward to supporting them as they continue to make a lasting impact.”
