Cash for parking

Some £4,000 is being spent by Felpham's councillors ensuring shoppers can park in the village centre for free.

The sum has been put aside by the parish council to maintain its subsidy of the Grassmere and Links Avenue car parks.

The money is paid to Arun District Council to help towards the sites' maintenance and ensure motorists can use them without paying.

Council chairman Cllr Paul English said continuing such support was essential in the tough economic times to help the local shops survive.

"We recognised years ago the importance of making it an attractive shopping opportunity by ensuring no charges were imposed on those wanting to use the village's facilities.

"This policy is even more important in the current economic crisis," he stated.
