Cash raised at Bognor Prom 10k road race

Runners in Bognor Regis have helped to improve the care of seriously-ill children.

The sponsorship of those who took part in this year's Bognor Prom 10k road race in aid of Chestnut Tree House children's hospice resulted in 4,026 being raised.

The money from individual entrants was topped up by 50 per cent by the race organisers, Bognor Hotham Rotary Club, to reach the final figure.

A cheque was handed over to the hospice's Jo Carden, by Peter Elliott from the Rotary Club (pictured).

The hospice was the club's charity partner for the race held on May 17.

Clair Jordan, 31, from Aldwick, was the lucky winner of the hospice's prize draw. She won a pair of running shoes and a place in the British London 10k in July.

The Bognor Prom 10k was her first race after she began running last January when she joined the Felpham-based Tone Zone Runners.

She completed the seafront route in one hour and three minutes in spite of the warm weather.

"It was a brilliant day," she said. "There were lots of people watching and cheering us all on."

She raised 550 in sponsorship for two charities which she supports '“ the hospice's sister charity, St Barnabas House '“ and the 1st Bognor Regis Brownies.

Clair is the unit leader. The money she raised will help the girls with the costs of attending events to celebrate the centenary of Guiding.

The coastal run will take place at 9.30am on September 13 along Littlehampton seafront. Entries online '“ www.chestnut-tree-house.org.uk '“ or by phone to 01903 871817.
