Cash-strapped council could lose chief executive and senior managers

A SHOCK management restructure plan from Rother District Council could result in the loss of its popular chief executive and a third of its most senior staff.

On Friday (April 5) the cash-strapped council announced the proposed restructure which would mean the departure of Derek Stevens and three department chiefs.

The dramatic cost-cutting blueprint has been put forward because the authority must find £1.5million of savings in the next two years, due to grant cuts by central government.

The district council has already made savings of £2 million and in the past two years has been forced to lose more than 30 staff.

On April 15 the council’s Cabinet will take a vote on the plan and any decision will need to be approved by a meeting of full council on May

20.

Mr Stevens has worked for the council for 40 years and is one of the longest serving chief executives in the south east.

He said the restructure would help to protect frontline jobs within the council.
