Cat could be blinded from cruel shooting

THE owner of a cat who was callously shot in the eye has said he fears the culprit may have done it before and could do it again.

Rescue cat Toby was shot in the eye on Friday after owner Lee Chambers, from Stanley Road in Wick, let the animal out briefly in the morning.

Lee, 42, found Toby in his garden looking ‘dishevelled’ with what appeared to be a tear of blood in the eye.

But it was only when Toby was taken to the vets that Lee learned he had been shot in the eye with an air rifle.

He said: “I had heard of things like this happening, but I almost thought they were urban myths.

“I’ve been shocked to hear from people around the country who have said this has happened to them, too.

“When we heard Toby had been shot, we thought ‘how is this possible?’.

“It’s not like whoever did this had got into a fight. The cat is innocent. Someone has taken the time to line up the shot and pull the trigger. It’s a sociopathic mentality.”
