Catch them while they’re hot!
THE ancient and unique tradition of scrambling for hot pennies will be re-enacted again in Rye when the Mayor Making ceremony takes place on bank holiday Monday.
Children are invited to gather outside the Town Hall in Market Street at 12.30pm when newly elected Mayor Bernardine Fiddimore will uphold the custom of throwing the pennies from an upper window to the streets below.
The Cinque Ports Volunteers will be on hand to ensure order is maintained.
Cllr Jonathan Breeds is expected to be elected Deputy Mayor.
