Catsfield

Quiz Night: As there will not be an evening event after the Fete and Flower Show this year, funds must be raised to cover the cost of the marquee hire. There will be a Quiz Night in the Village Hall on Saturday next, 16th July and tickets are available in the Village Store costing £5 per head, or contact Vanessa on 01424 844363 and teams will be of six people only. This is a general knowledge Quiz, NOT a horticultural one. Bring your own refreshments and there will be a licensed bar. Village Quiz nights are always good for a fun night out, so do make a note of the date and start thinking of who will be in your team and what to call yourselves!

Last Sunday an enjoyable game was held at home versus Netherfield Cricket Club. Catsfield batted first and finished 104 all out, Andy Williams scoring 35 and Martin Gurr 20. Despite trying to hang on for a draw, Netherfield were all out for 64. Tom Bristow-Diamond was star bowler again, finishing with 5 for 9, David Taylor 2 for 4 and young player Jonty Lavocah 1 for 14. This Sunday we play Southbourne at home.

Crowhurst Flower Festival

The weather improved for the Flower Festival at St George’s Church, Crowhurst last weekend and on Sunday it felt as if summer might have finally arrived! The theme this year was a celebration of Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary based on some of his Plays and Sonnets. The many village organisations and societies had each skilfully depicted their title in beautiful flower arrangements and the church looked lovely with every corner filled with colour, even the porch was filled with plants, flowers and herbs representing ‘Anne Hathaway’s Cottage Garden’ and looking very much the part. Coffee, tea, cakes and lunches were available and a small marquee in the churchyard accommodated some stalls as well as tables and chairs at which to eat.

WWl Weekend: After the moving images last week and the many events commemorating 100th anniversary of the start of The Battle of the Somme, there will be a World War One Weekend at Crowhurst beginning this evening, Friday 8th with a talk on First World War Poets. Details of events can be found in the July Parish Magazine and from today until Wednesday 13th July, there will be an exhibition in the Parish Room of St George’s Church.
