Christian Aid Coffee Morning and Plant Sale: Last Saturday’s sale of plants was the usual huge success with lots of people jostling for the many bargains that were available, there seemed to be a lot of very keen gardeners around and a wonderful selection of plants on sale. The wonderful sum of £670 was raised for Christian Aid and Libby would like to thank all the helpers who worked so hard and everyone who donated plants, cakes and raffle prizes. The Christian Aid envelopes will still be available from Libby in church on Sunday morning after the 9.15am service if you didn’t get round to making your donation to this worthy charity.

Windmill Hill (thanks to Ann for this and the Sport): It was National Mills Weekend last weekend and the largest post mill in the UK was opened by our local MP. It is right on our doorstep at Windmill Hill and is open to the public from 2.30 to 5pm on the first and 3rd Sundays of each month up until October. There is a short film to watch, volunteers to answer questions and a walk up the steps to see the inside workings. The most glorious view of our neighbourhood right out to the sea awaits intrepid climbers and the whole experience is a joy. Once the countryside was dotted with windmills but so few of them remain and we must be grateful to this dedicated team of volunteers who have pulled off this important act of restoration. George Eliot’s long, but superb novel “Mill on the Floss” tells you what life was like as a miller’s family, but take a visit to the Windmill to see for yourselves.

Sport: Cricket on Sunday against Netherfield was marred by one of the opposition breaking his leg whilst fielding mid-wicket. He had only been drafted in to strengthen a rather young Netherfield team, so it was a poor reward for an act of loyalty. We send our best wishes to him. We batted first and at tea were 200 for 2 with Derek Fuller getting 127 not out, David Taylor 24 and James Wilson 27. Netherfield were all out for 36, the wickets taken by A Jay 4 for 18, Tom Bristow-Diamond 3 for 8 and Andy Williams 2 for 6. Saturday Bexhill are using our ground and we play Parkhurst on Sunday, but there is doubt that their pitch on the Downs will be ready as it is suffering from boggy outfield.

Mobile Library: Today Friday 20th May, the East Sussex Mobile Library will be in its usual place outside the Village Hall from 11.55am – 12.30 pm.
