Lent Courses: These started last Wednesday but you are welcome to drop into any one or all of four more sessions based on different aspects of the life of St Francis of Assisi which will be held on 24th February and 2nd, 9th and 16th March. There is a choice of daytime at Crowhurst in the Parish Room of St George's Church at 10.30am for coffee and the session starting at 10am '“ 12pm, or at the Rectory in the evenings at 7pm for coffee and 7.30pm '“ 8.30pm for the session. Nobody has to speak if they don't want to and all that is required is a willingness to listen.

Women’s World Day of Prayer: This annual service will be on 4th March at St Laurence Church. This year the service is prepared by the Christian Women of Cuba and is entitled ‘Receive Children. Receive me.’ All are invited to stay for tea and refreshments after the service. Women’s World Day of Prayer started in America in a small way in the mid 1800’s and has now grown to become a truly international Day of Prayer. It has already begun when the sun rose over Samoa and the first service was held and it will go forward as a great wave of prayer that continues to encircle the earth. It is travelling across 170 countries and islands (over 6,000 services will have been held in the British Isles alone) until it reaches the last service to be held at sunset in American Samoa.

Other Forthcoming Events: Next Saturday 27th February there will be a Lent Lunch held in Catsfield Village Hall on from 11.30am – 1.30pm. The cost will be £5 each for adults and £3.50 for children, to raise money for St Laurence Church funds.

WI members are reminded that the competition for the next meeting on March 3rd is to make something out of woollen bobbles, come on ladies – rise to the challenge, you CAN do it!

The AGM of the Village Hall will be held at the hall on Wednesday 9th March at 7.30pm, so do come along and hear how things are faring for this most important community centre of village social life. Drinks and nibbles will be served afterwards.

The WI Jumble Sale is usually an important event in March, but unfortunately the Village Hall was already booked so this will now be held on Saturday 16th April. More details nearer the time, but do please keep any unwanted items for this fundraising event for the Air Ambulance Service.

Sport: Once again, our football match was cancelled because of a saturated pitch. We hope to play Peasmarsh away tomorrow and hope the forecasted period of colder drier weather will allow this protracted season to re-start. Meanwhile, the cricket fixtures are completed and no doubt the stoolballers are getting themselves together. We have had a request from other clubs to use our pitch, which we try to accommodate since it gives extra income to defray the Playing Field expenses. Sadly, we won’t be hosting the Sussex Girls cricket team this year, as their available dates don’t match with ours.

Residents of Watermill Lane were disappointed to hear that the North Bexhill Access Road has been approved. In the meantime, please be aware there is a huge pothole by Henley Down Pond and some more coming opposite Lower Hill Farm. Generally, try to avoid driving through puddles since it is impossible to know what they hide.

Mobile Library: The next visit of the East Sussex Mobile Library will be next week on Friday 26th February when once again it will be in its usual place outside the Village Hall from 11.55am – 12.30 pm.
