WI: Next Thursday 1st October at 2.30pm the speaker at the meeting of Catsfield WI will be Gary Enstone who will talk to us about ‘Rudyard Kipling- His Remarkable Life’. Gary is a historic buildings conservator and the House Manager at Bateman’s, a National Trust House, which for many years was the beautiful Jacobean family home of the Kipling family. On a daily basis Gary has to ensure that all the precious artifacts in the house are in perfect condition for the visitors to see at their best and he has many interesting tales to tell. Visitors are welcome to attend this meeting.

On Wednesday 16th September we celebrated the actual day on which the WI was formed one hundred years ago. We had hoped for an Indian Summer and the opportunity to have an ‘American Picnic’ in Beryl and David’s garden, but the weather was pretty awful and with even worse forecast, we turned to ‘plan B’ and used the Village Hall instead. About twenty-two members enjoyed a wonderful lunch to which everyone contributed and we toasted the 100 years of the WI with champagne and good company.

Linda Keeley: It was with great sadness that we heard last Wednesday week that our dear friend Linda Keeley had died after a very long and courageous struggle against cancer. Her determination and constant good humour in spite of all her problems bravely borne, always made one feel brighter for having been in her company. Her many friends at St Laurence’s Church, Catsfield WI and Ashburnham where she lived will miss her considerably and we all send our love and condolences to Dennis and her two girls.

Admiral Nurses: You will remember that a few years ago Catsfield raised several thousands of pounds to help fund Admiral Nurses who support the carers of patients suffering with Alzheimer’s disease. This was achieved through the generous support of coffee mornings and also through a couple of years as the charity supported by the WI. At long last patience has been rewarded and on 13th October 2015 initial half hour consultations for carers of patients with Alzheimer’s can be arranged at the Cooden Beach Hotel, Bexhill TN39 4TT to meet and talk on a one to one basis privately and in confidence to an Admiral Nurse, with follow up maintained afterwards. Do please take this opportunity to find help and understanding of the problems that you and your loved ones face both now and in the future.

Harvest Festival and Lunch: The Harvest Festival service at St Laurence’s Church will be this Sunday 27th September at 11am followed by a Harvest Lunch to which all are welcome after the service. The church will be dressed for Harvest on Saturday 26th and gifts of flowers, foliage and produce will be gratefully received, but before 9.30am please. The Harvest gifts will again be donated to XTRAX who work with young men and women in Hastings in need of help.

Mobile Library: The Mobile Library will again be outside the Village Hall in Church Road in its usual place from 11.55am – 12.30pm next Friday 2nd October.
