Catsfield

Today!: Friday 3rd July the Playing Field hosts the school sports followed by the traditional cricket match of the school versus the village. Do go along and watch, it is always great fun. On Saturday 4th July Bexhill are again using our pitch and on Sunday 5th we will play Netherfield at home.

Flower Festival: St George’s Church, Crowhurst will be holding a Flower Festival tomorrow, Saturday 4th from 10am – 5pm and on Sunday 5th July from 12.30 – 5pm. There will be bric-a-brac, cakes and produce and plants stalls and any contributions for these will be gratefully received as would any plants or bunches of flowers. Donations can be brought on Friday or early Saturday morning. Teas and coffees, cakes, scones, biscuits and Ploughman lunches and fruit crumble will be served.

Graham Forsythe: We said goodbye to an old “village boy” in the parish church this week when a packed congregation paid tribute to Graham Forsythe. The son of Bob and Amy Forsythe and brother to Evelyn, Graham was born in the old Holly Cottages in Church Road. The family moved to be one of the first occupants of the then newly built Skinners Lane Council houses and he lived there until his marriage. Graham went to Catsfield School with his mates Bob Philcox, Ron Saxby, Alan Gibbs and the Bingham family. He took part in Mrs Broadley’s productions in the village hall, played the mandolin and football for the village team. Sadly, he was the last of that group of mates and another era has gone.

Watch this Space!: Did you notice the very small notification in the Observer of a public consultation regarding a new road which will link up with The Link Road? This road will take traffic from the Ninfield Road near the Freezeland Lane junction and cross Watermill Lane south of Cockerels Farmhouse to join the Link Road. There will be two bridges, one across Watermill Lane and the other in Sidley and the sole purpose is to open up north-west Sidley to about 1,000 houses and factories. Concerned people attended the consultation, but there will be a planning application, so please be aware of what is about to happen to our area. How many houses are we being asked to accommodate, how much extra traffic will be generated to use our already saturated roads? Watch this space, this is not about relieving traffic congestion, it is about over-development.

Cream Teas and Craft Sale: On Saturday July 18th in the Village Hall from 3pm – 5pm Catsfield WI will be holding their Cream Teas and Craft Sale event and hope to raise lots of money for ‘The Air Ambulance Service’. Janet, Helen and Frances will all be running craft stalls and homemade cakes will also be on sale. The cream teas including cake will cost £4 each and £2 for children and it is hoped to raise a lot of money for ‘The Air Ambulance Service’.

Village Fete and Flower Show: The countdown is on for this great annual village event to be held on the Playing Field, Vanessa is organising it and says that she needs all the help she can get. Carol Hodgson, Sarah Campbell and Rosemary Cooper are giving a hand but many more are needed please, or once again this wonderful village occasion maybe at risk! If anyone wishes to contribute in any way at all can you please contact Vanessa on 01424 They will also be looking for donations of bric-a-brac, bottles, books, tombola prizes etc. so please turn out your cupboards and donate what you can.

The schedule is ready but it has not been proof read yet and will soon be available in the Village Store. The dance in the evening will again feature ‘The Swing Band’ and even if you’re not a dancer, it’s great entertainment and a chance to enjoy a lovely social village get-together. More details to follow soon.
