Mothering Sunday: Next Sunday 15th March is Mothering Sunday and the morning service at St Laurence’s Church will be different this year. For a trial period over the next six months, the Family Service on the third Sunday of each month will be at 10am and last about half an hour, with coffee served afterwards. Of course for this month it will include the traditional giving of thanks and posies of spring flowers by the children to their mothers and other ladies in the congregation. The morning Eucharist Service will start at the usual time of 9.15am, but will be a shorter ‘said’ service and not sung, then there will be an interval of about 15mins before the Family Service begins and of course, all are invited to attend either service or both.

Lent Lunch: Last Saturday’s Lent Lunch raised £120.00 for St Laurence Church funds but more importantly was really enjoyed by those who dropped in. We had around thirty people who sat and chatted whilst lunching on soup, cheese and biscuits followed by tea or coffee. It was a very pleasant two hours and something to be considered again.

The Spring Concert: Next week on Friday 13th March at 7.30pm the Spring Concert will be held in the parish church of St Laurence’s Church. It’s bound to be a delightful evening if the previous concerts are anything to go by and is sure to be a musical treat. Tickets are on sale from the Village Stores priced £6 each to include a light supper and will also be available on the door. The evening will feature the St Laurence Church Choir and Guest Artists and will raise money to help maintain this beautiful old church.

Sports News: Once again the weather changed at the weekend and football was called off. We hope to play Tackleway away at Hastings tomorrow, but nothing is guaranteed this winter. The village is, however, preparing for the summer and the AGM of the cricket club takes place tomorrow at the Squirrel Inn, Battle. We hope to have a pleasant evening with good food, lots of stories and the presentation of the bowling and batting cups. Most of this year’s fixtures will again be on Sundays and visitors are always welcome..
