Kimber’s Men: On the 21st February 2015 at 7.30pm the singing group ‘Kimber’s Men’ will be appearing in the Village Hall with their extensive range of traditional sea songs and shanties. You may have seen them on television and there are several videos of them on Youtube if you just Google ‘Kimber’s Men’. The line-up of five has changed since the original formation of the group in 2001, but they are all experienced performers and make a great sound, singing these wonderful old songs together in harmony. Tickets are on sale now in the Village Stores at £9 and concessions are £6 (over 60’s & children)

WI: After the first New Year meeting of the Catsfield WI was postponed to last week because of the terrific amount of rain and the volume of water on the roads, it was worrying to find similar weather again on the following Thursday morning! However, fortunately by the afternoon it wasn’t so bad and we were all able to gather in the village hall as planned. It was good to have Barbara back playing the piano as we sang Jerusalem, after the gallop through it at our Christmas meeting when accompanied by a substitute! After the usual business matters, it was good to see a cheque presented by our President to Julie from Demelza Hospice Care, bringing the total raised for this worthy cause to £1,471. Julie thanked everyone most sincerely for their efforts and told us of the many ways in which funds are used to help sick or profoundly disabled children and their families in this area, particularly through music and art therapy. She also described how a transition service has been developed to bridge the gap for children when they become too old for the children’s hospice, as the adult hospice’s aren’t always equipped to fulfil all the needs of younger people. Our new charity for the year is the local Air Ambulance Service. The somewhat tedious task of voting for which resolution the WI as a whole should support during the next year caused some lively debate. All agreed that none of the suggestions were very inspiring and eventually ‘Cutting back on Food Waste’ was selected, although it was felt that it was something that most WI members practised anyway! The competition for a handmade celebration card had ten beautiful entries from which we had to vote for a winner. It was extremely hard to choose but the first place went to Audrey’s delicately water-coloured card, which will now go forward to the next stage against other WI’s in the county. A competition amused us all as we enjoyed a super tea. Jumble Sale: There will be a Jumble Sale in the Village Hall on Saturday 14th March – a long way off yet, but bear it in mind if you’re having a sort out and keep unwanted items for the WI to sell in aid of their new charity for the year.

Sport: The terrible weather resulted in only one football match being played in the East Sussex League last week and that was on an artificial pitch. However, our lads went training running six miles around Hastings ready for tomorrow’s fixture at Barley Lane versus Tackleway. Let us hope it will be played otherwise all that energy will be wasted and may not happen again!
