Catsfield

Catsfield School: On Monday 8th December the children of Catsfield School will be singing carols at 5pm at Catsfield Christmas Tree Farm and they will be presenting a cheque for £400 that they’ve raised for the Spinal Injury Charity. Friday 12th December the PTA will be holding a Christmas Fair in the school hall. There will be a raffle, tombola, craft stalls, cakes and of course, Father Christmas.

Local residents are invited to the school hall on Monday 15th December at 1.30pm to hear the children singing carols whilst you enjoy tea and home-made cakes. Please would you notify the school office if you would like to come (01424 892247)

Christmas Market: The St Laurence Church Christmas Market last Saturday was a huge success and raised £1510! This fantastic amount will help to boost the very necessary funds needed for the upkeep of our beautiful parish church. There was a constant arrival of local residents and some visitors from further afield at the Village Hall on a lovely autumn afternoon. The hall looked very festive with stalls attractively decorated in red and green, draped with foliage and laden with lovely things to buy. Tables and chairs were set out for teas and lunches and were constantly occupied, the hall was buzzing with chatter and laughter – not least at the sight of the two elves helping at Santa’s Grotto! Adults and children enjoyed the challenge of the games and tombola and the raffle proved very popular. It was altogether a popular and very enjoyable village event and the organisers would like to thank everyone who made donations of items to sell and all those who worked so hard to make it such a success.

Pantomime: This year’s pantomime ‘Sinbad and the Big Eruption’ has already had its first airing to an excited audience in the Village Hall. There are three more opportunities to see this unique performance so visit the Village Stores now if you haven’t already booked, to see if there are any tickets left or returned for the last couple of days. There will be a review in next week’s Village Voice.

Sports News: Most of the football team were away last weekend on winter training, at least that is what the Premier League call it. A more accurate description would be a “jolly”, but we hope it has toned up the muscles for tomorrow’s fixture away to Tackleway, which we really need to win.

Christmas Shopping in Catsfield: A timely reminder to shop in the village for Christmas and the New Year. At the Village Store there is absolutely everything you need, especially Sarah’s home made cakes for an extra treat, whilst next door the Baker family are busy making their world famous sausages, chipolatas and sausage meat for the stuffing and sausage rolls. Further up the road the Gowland family have their very attractive farm shop filled with fine food, fruit, vegetables and even some unusual and attractive Christmas gifts. Redcoat Farm also offers a Christmassy experience. Clive Collins and his staff can help you find your perfect Christmas tree and there are also lights and decorations at the Christmas Tree Farm. So, let us support the businesses who keep the village alive throughout the year and enjoy our Christmas shopping locally at the same time.
