Tomorrow is the day of the Catsfield Horticultural Society’s Spring Show to be held in the Village Hall from 2pm – 4pm, entrance 50p, children free. Do come along to see the results of the competitors hard work on display and see if you agree with the verdicts of the judges, enjoy tea with friends and neighbours and buy plants, cakes and raffle tickets. This is always an enjoyable event.

Sunday 13th April is the start of Holy Week and Easter cards with the details of all the services at St Laurence Church will be delivered to Catsfield residents and are available to pick up in the church for anyone living outside the village.

There’s another opportunity for enjoying afternoon tea in the Village Hall the following day too, on Sunday 13th April between 2pm – 4.30pm. Nicole Jewett is an enterprising young lady who is planning to raise money for the Quicken Trust in Kabubbu, Uganda where she is planning to travel as a volunteer in the summer. The work there involves helping to provide medical treatment and sanitation for the community, having already built a school and a health centre. Funds are badly needed and by coming to the hall for tea on Sunday, you will be able to meet Nicole and learn more about the Trust and the work that’s being done.

Sad news from the football club, but apparently under the rules of the Hastings Junior Cup, one of our players was deemed ineligible to play and our first team has been disqualified from the final. This is a huge disappointment to the team, but ignorance of the law is no excuse and although an appeal is probably being lodged, we don’t expect to be reinstated. We hoped this news would spur on the team to a win on Saturday, but we lost 4 - 2 against Windsor away with Tony Luke and Ian Swain scoring our goals and the seconds drew 3 - 3 against Hawkhurst. Tomorrow, the firsts are away at Wadhurst in a double-header so that the back log of fixtures can be caught up and the seconds are at home to Parkfield.

The 96th birthday meeting of the WI was a joyous occasion with plenty of guests, a generous tea supplied by the Committee and a beautiful iced birthday cake made by Ann Clegg. John Cave, who runs the Seaford Folk Club, was our excellent entertainer. He sat on the stage with a guitar, mouth organ and the occasional burst from a tambourine singing his own compositions and our favourites from Richard Stilgoe and Jake Thackaray. There were songs to poke fun at the WI and the pathos of Joyce the librarian who took up with a rotarian - marvellous.

Keep Saturday 4th May free for another Murder Mystery Evening performed by the CADS in the Village Hall at 7.30pm – always great entertainment and lots of laughs!

Have you visited the woods or walked across the fields lately? The early spring flowers are appearing everywhere, the first bluebells are showing alongside the swathes of delicate wood anemones, with stitchwort and Jack-by-the-Hedge appearing at the roadsides. The trees are showing their buds or new leaves and the hedgerows are almost fully clothed. The birds are busy singing to impress, whilst pairing up and home-building and the surrounding countryside is looking magnificent. Spring has arrived!
