The last three performances of the CADS amazing pantomime extravaganza ‘Panto Goes West’ take place tonight and tomorrow in the Village Hall. If you haven’t booked, it MAY be worth trying in the Village Store to see if there are any seats left – you’ll be sorry if you don’t!

Next Friday 13th December the very LAST Lunch Club will be held in the Village Hall with a special Christmas Lunch to which everyone is invited. Call Libby on 892360 to see if there are any places left at the amazing price of just £5.

I will repeat the dates of Catsfield School’s Christmas activities for the coming week to which we’re all invited, in case anyone missed them last week. The children will be Carol Singing at Catsfield Christmas Tree Farm on Wednesday 11th December at 5pm. Refreshments will be available and there will be a collection for the Spinal Injuries Charity. Please come along and support this very worthwhile cause.

The Key Stage 1 Nativity ‘Born in a Barn’ will take place on Thursday 12th December at 9.45am in the school hall. All parents, grandparents and villagers are welcome.

The PTA Christmas Bazaar will be held on Friday 13th December from 3.30-4.30pm in the School hall. There will be many stalls selling seasonal products and Father Christmas in his grotto for the children. Villagers are most welcome to attend.

Last Saturday’s Christmas Market in the Village Hall raised the best ever amount of an incredible £1571 for the parish church of St Laurence. Well done to everyone who put in such a tremendous amount of hard work to make it such a success. The hall looked so attractive with the ‘market stalls’ all done up in red and green, draped with ivy and greenery and laden with a multitude of attractive goods. With such a selection it was hard to know where to start! Most of the shoppers were glad of the chance to sit down and enjoy a ploughman’s lunch or tea, coffee and cakes whilst meeting up with old friends, before going round the stalls again.

Santa’s Grotto was an imaginatively decorated, mystical ice cavern, with Father Christmas and his elves awaiting the many young visitors with a present for each. The St Laurence Church ‘Family Favourite Cookery Book’, full of local residents’ tried and tested family recipes, was launched costing £3 each and copies were selling fast. If you missed the opportunity to buy one, they are available in the church or contact one of the Church Wardens – Jane 893431 or Mike 892681.

Returning from an abortive trip to Holland the weekend before last to sign some old Ajax players, your sports reporter found it wasn’t necessary, as the first team beat Crowhurst again 2 -0 and the seconds triumphed in a cup match against Victoria Baptists 10 - 1. However, last Saturday in a hard fought contest and fielding a depleted team, the firsts gave away two penalties to lose 2 - 3 against Little Chelsea at home. Jack Graham and Tony Luke scored our two goals. The seconds won again 2 - 1 versus Sedlescombe and are top of the table in division 6. Tomorrow sees only the firsts with a game at home versus Herstmonceux. Meanwhile, the cricketers are planning next year’s fixtures and the AGM dinner.

This is a message from Diane Wilson’s son James – If you are looking to take up a new hobby or get involved in sport in the local area then come along Rother Table Tennis Academy’s club in Battle which takes place 7pm-8.30pm at Battle Sports Centre on North Trade Road. The club is open to all ages and no previous experience or equipment is required. It is a good way of keeping fit and having fun. Also if you do want to pursue technical excellence there is an English Table Tennis Association Qualified coach in attendance.
