Catsfield

Jill Jarrett, Henley Down Cottage

On Sunday we were able to play our last cricket game of the season against Netherfield at home winning by 2 wickets. Andy Williams batted well for 77 with Connor Earl contributing 29 and an explosive 65 not out from Martin Gurr, one of his shots narrowly missing wife Jackie preparing the teas. Netherfield were all out just before close of play Tony Taylor taking 3 for 16 runs and Nick Gurr 4 for 21. It was good to see old friend Brian Crouch playing for Netherfield again, we wish him well. Last year we played 12 games and this year 13, despite having to cancel some games.

Catsfield Seconds football team had a good win against FC Westridge 8 - 0.

The following is an update from the Parish Council re the play area. Over the past month we have been preparing the area ready for new equipment. Vegetation has been cleared and the old play equipment removed. All that work has left large holes and an unbelievable amount of concrete. The ground will now be made ready for the new equipment to be installed in early September. In the meantime, the play area is closed, but the Parish Council hope you will be patient and agree it will all be worth it.

There is a private boot sale on the Playing Field on Sunday morning 8th September 8 am start. Cars are £8, vans £10, car and trailer £10. Enquiries to 01424 428915.

Adjacent to the Field, St Michael’s Hospice are holding their annual horse and dog show on the same day 9 am to 5pm. There are many horse, pony and dog classes with stalls and refreshments. For all enquiries call Plum on 07939893662.

Don’t forget the quiz night on Saturday 7th September in the Village Hall, full details from the shop.
