Catsfield

Don’t forget to get your tickets and your thinking caps on for next Saturday 7th September when the Quiz Night in the Village Hall at 7.30pm will be to raise funds for St Laurence’s Church, the theme will be ‘Music and Pictures’. Tickets cost £5 each and are available from the Village Stores and although refreshments will be available, it is also suggested that you bring your own nibbles.

Well, would you believe it, no appreciable rain for weeks, both Catsfield and Parkhurst had full teams raring to go, but it rained all day Saturday and another cricket match was lost. There will, hopefully, be a match at Catsfield on Saturday 31st August when the ground is being hired out to a Bexhill side and then Catsfield play their last match of the season against Netherfield at home on Sunday commencing at 1.30pm. This has been a very difficult season, but all matches played have been enjoyed and as usual, we look forward to the end of season dinner and hope for a better year. Some work has to be done to the pitch over the winter period, usually when all the harvest is in and next year’s crops planted.

The stoolballers have also had a mixed season, but let us hope they finish with wins in the ladies tournament at Robertsbridge on 1st September and at Brightling on 8th September.

You may have noted farmers rushing to get the plough into the ground barely after harvesting, this is because rape has to be in the ground before the end of August. The rape crop has been very poor this year, you can blame the cold, the wet and the ever increasing number of pigeons.

Good news from the Village Hall, the floor repairs, electrical tidying up and decorating has been done on schedule thanks to Allan Wilkinson organising and supervising the works. We are so lucky to have him voluntarily looking after the Hall, especially when you consider he has had a distinguished career for the Crown in Hong Kong and latterly at the Tower of London.

This is a last reminder to WI members to bring your school photos and other memorabilia to the September 5th meeting starting at 2.30pm. We look forward to some revelations!
