The Sports Correspondent was only able to attend one event over the bitter weekend, because it was held in the warmth of the Squirrel Pub for the cricket club AGM and dinner. The bowling cup was won by Andy Williams and Nigel Champion won the batting cup. Only 12 matches were played in 2012 due to the awful weather, but we won 8 of these with 3 drawn and only 1 lost. Dan Tweed has resigned as club secretary, his job taken by David Taylor, with Nick Gurr taking on the task of treasurer. Keith Cook has arranged a full fixture list and we hope for a good summer.

Another warm venue for games is the snooker room in the Village Hall which is sadly under-used. The hall committee is interested in promoting a snooker club and if anyone is interested in running an informal group of users, please ring Parish Clerk Carol Hodgson, who takes bookings for the room. Otherwise, just ring Carol for an hour’s booking tel: 892831.

Now to the cold and disappointing part of the sports news, the football match against Ore which resulted in a loss (and here I hope the editor will use his smallest type face) 1-8 with Andy Chambers scoring our only goal, although I am told we played well. Saturday’s match is against Bexhill Athletic away and let’s hope they don’t live up to their name. Come on boys, we need a win.
