On Wednesday 21st November, weather permitting, there will be a working party at Powdermill Wood. Meet at the car park at 10am. Maintaining and where possible, enhancing the ecology of our nature reserves is the heart of the Powdermill Trust’s activities. These work parties are suitable for volunteers of all ages and abilities (though under 16’s must be accompanied by a responsible adult). So please don’t be put off by fear that the work will be too demanding for you, or require too much existing expertise, or that you cannot make a regular commitment – even the odd hour each year will help the Trust. Please bring suitable footwear, work gloves and a packed lunch and drink if you plan to stay all day, tools are provided and you will be led by expert conservationists and taught any skills you don’t already have. Call Derek Bates 01424 425538 for further information.

Mulled wine and hotdogs helped put a spark into the evening, which was attended by approximately seventy people.

The football team lost again on Saturday 0 - 2 in a cup match against Herstmonceux who, in a division below us, should have been beaten. Another nasty injury was sustained, this time to Ben’s foot which resulted in a hospital visit, but fortunately it wasn’t broken. When are we going to return to winning form? Hopefully, the 17th away at Tile Kiln in another cup match playing Peche Hill Select kick off at 1.30pm. Is it time for the President and Chairman to dust off their boots? They do still have them by the way and are anxiously awaiting the call to arms. Ah memories!

Last Monday was the funeral of my dear husband Jim at St Laurence Church. My family and I would like to thank all the wonderful people of Catsfield, Bexhill and round about who filled the church to pay tribute to a good and gentle man. It meant a lot to us to see you all there and to know that you all cared so much for Jim as did we, his family. Thank you too for the countless cards and letters that I have received, I will be re-reading them many times and treasuring the sentiments that they convey.
