Catsfield

It’s time to put some ‘Love in a Box’ for the Mustard Seed charity and fill a shoe box for under-privileged children. Leaflets are available from the Village Shop with details and suggestions of items with which to fill your box. Ann Carter is organising the despatch of the boxes and would be grateful if they could be brought to the church and left in the Tower Room at the back of the church by 20th November. She has asked me to remind you that £2.50 should also be included, to go towards the cost of collection and delivery of the filled boxes. The school will not be filling boxes this year and so it would be good if a lot more village people would join in to help keep up the numbers sent by Catsfield for this very worthy cause.

The East Sussex Mobile Library will be in its usual place outside the Village Hall tomorrow 27th October from 4.15pm – 4.45pm.

We wanted Catsfield football club to play to their potential and start winning games. Last Saturday they played Battle Baptists at Battle in the Hastings Junior Cup, in a competitive match going to extra time and penalties, only to lose and with more injuries sustained. Let us hope the Catsfield pitch dries out in time for a home fixture tomorrow against Hollington, one of the strongest teams in the league.

Catsfield Under 5’s have vacancies and would welcome enquiries to fit into this active, friendly group. Call in to the Village Hall to talk to Poppy or Claire during term time if you’re interested.

The next WI meeting on Thursday 1st November will be at the winter starting time of 2pm and will be the Annual Meeting, which is for the election of President and confirmation of the Committee. There will also be reports on our year’s activities, questions and answers etc and then we are having a fun game of bingo before tea.

By the time that you read this, the ‘Weather Man’ has said that temperatures will be falling and becoming more appropriate for the time of year. After all the weeks of warm weather and so much rain almost every day, the fields and woods are so muddy and in places, almost under water – how fortunate we are not to have the anxiety of flooding on our doorsteps. The leaves and bracken are changing colour fast now and the sweet chestnuts are littering the ground. Their size is quite diminished from previous years, but there seem to be plenty for the squirrels to store away for the winter. This is unlike the conkers for the children to collect, which were virtually non-existent. It’s been a very strange year for the harvest of many things, plums and apples for example have been seriously lacking and even the blackberries, after a spectacular display of flowers earlier, failed to turn into a plentiful supply of fat berries. We wait to see what the winter weather will bring!

There will be one thing to look forward to for sure. The posters are going up this week for the CADS famous pantomime, tickets will be on sale on 1st November from village shop. The rehearsals are going well, the songs are all chosen, we just need to learn them! We welcome Keith, who lives in the village, and Sallie and John from Little Common to the cast this year, they have fitted in really well. We are all obviously behaving extremely well and not giving Aaron any reason to question why he took on the job of Director!!

During our busy rehearsal schedule, this week we will be putting on a murder mystery for the Bexhill Sailing Club, at their premises in Bexhill. Every Sunday from now until the pantomime we will be in the hall sorting scenery, props, costumes etc., so if anyone finds themselves at a loose end pop along to the hall between 12.30 and 6.30 and we will find you something to do, even if it’s just making the tea!
