Catsfield village voice

It is hoped the Playing Field will dry out enough to enable it to be used on Saturday when Sidley 3rd team hire our ground and on Sunday when Catsfield play Brightling Park.

The following weekend is of course our Diamond Jubilee Celebrations lasting from school sports day on Friday 1st; Saturday 2nd village exhibition, cricket match, hand bell ringers, planter competition and then CADS fancy dress murder mystery. Sunday is the big picnic at lunchtime with a free glass of fizz for the local toast, then a Thanksgiving by St Laurence Church. Monday family fun and games, Bayeux Bowmen archery display, big tea party, performance by the Jubilee Choir, then dance to Swingstreet dance band, culminating in firework display and lighting of the beacon. The weather is going to improve and our lovely Playing Field with the huge marquee and refurbished entrance will be looking its best. Parking will be on the football pitch. Some events are free but tickets for the murder mystery, big tea party and dance are available from the village shop, where the gnome naming competition is still running.

I notice it is the villages who are making huge efforts to celebrate this momentous occasion and hope every one enjoys their celebrations.

Turning to another matter, a packed audience attended a special Parish Council meeting to have their say about the controversial planning application RR/2012/717P for conversion of Twisly to a holiday/weekend home for 72 children. Whatever your views, it is not too late to send your comments to Rother District Council, or your Rother Councillor Dr Angharad Davies.

Everyone enjoyed the splendid walk through the Ashburnham Estate organised in aid of St Laurence Church funds. Thanks to Linda Keeley and her family for their much needed refreshments afterwards, when we sat in the sunny garden.

The plant sale and coffee morning to raise funds for Christian Aid was also well attended and reminds us how important all these events are in village life. Come to the Jubilee and see what else we do.
