This Friday, May 11th, the Lunch club meets at 12 noon for 12.30 lunch as usual., the Jubilee Choir arrive at the hall for their rehearsal in time for a 5 o`clock start and Barbara is still ready to welcome newcomers to join this very successful musical tribute for the Queen.

On Sunday the 13th, Linda Keeley invites you to join her Family Fun Sponsored Stroll round the grounds of Ashburnham Place, taking in the breath taking landscape. created by Cap0ability Brown. The walk starts from Linghams Farm Cottage, Ashburnham, TN33 9NR, which you reach by taking the left hand fork to the Ash pub, after you have come off the Kitchenham Road. Much needed refreshments will be provided at the cottage, after the walk, but Linda urges you to bring a drink with you

Christian Aid week starts on the 13th and continues until the 19th, when there will be door to door collectors going through the village.

The annual Coffee Morning and mammoth plant sale in aid of Christian Aid takes place in the village hall on Saturday 19th from 10am until 12 noon. Cakes, plants, a huge raffle and refeshments make it a must for gardeners. Donations of plants, cakes raffle prizes etc would be very welcome at the hall, on the day.

The May meeting of the WI was the Resolutions meeting, when we endorsed the resolution asking for more midwives. It was our Fun Flower and Produce Show day, brought forward from June, because of the Jubilee.

Because of the weather and the early date, there were fewer entries than last year, but the standard was as high as ever and the entries juat as varied. The winner was Ann Clegg, second Beryl Bodey, with Jane Overall and Amanda Watson third. We would like to thank our judges, Joan and Malcolm, and Janet Wolf for giving their time and expertise. Well done Pat and Margaret, who organised this popular event.

John Overall led a two hour walk through the Normanhurst Estate as our last event before Jubilee weekend.  We were given permission by Jan Auer to go round the lakes and up into the woods, seeing the view the Brasseys would have seen from their house.  We could only imagine how magnificent the estate would have looked with exotic specimen trees, parkland and the lakes themselves. Jan has been undertaking clearance and new plantings, which will take some time to settle, but we had the pleasure of seeing primroses, swathes of bluebells and even orchids. Some fifty people braved the cold hoping that the first weekend of June will be sunny and warm. 

Free souvenir Jubilee programmes are available at Great Park Farm, Bakers Sausages and of course the Village Shop where tickets can be bought.  We urge you to buy your tickets soon, as we are expecting a high demand.  Some events are free and the most expensive ticket is £2 even for the dance, so let’s see as many village people as possible joining in this very special weekend.

This Sunday is Rogation Sunday when we pray for rain for the crops!!

Parish Communion is at the usual time, 9.15 am.
