Catsfield village voice

On Thursday the 15th, the Catsfield Village Hall AGM takes place in the hall at 7.30 pm. It is our chance to thank the committee for all they do to make the hall so comfortable and efficient a meeting place for us all. They invite us to drinks, nibbles, news and views – do come.

On Saturday the 17th, there will be A Right Royal Quiz, another fund raising event for the Queen`s Jubilee, at 7.30 pm in the hall. Bring your own food, tickets, £5 include the first drink and are available from the Village Stores.

The following week, on Thursday 22nd, Chalkfoot Theatre Company make a welcome return to the village. Their play, Running For Glory takes the story of two athletes, Harald Abrahams and Eric Liddell, who competed in the 1924 Paris Olympics and makes the competition between the two men into a fine piece of topical theatre.

I should like to finish my Village Voice on a happy note with a village fairy tale, brought to me courtesy of one of our great village story tellers - guess who!

Once upon a time there was a beautiful pantomime queen called Vanessa who came across a box of reject gnomes. Her heart melted, she begged her boss to sell them to her and she brought them to the Jubilee Committee where they were met with incredulity and laughter. What to do with them? How could they become part of the tasteful Jubilee

celebrations we were planning? Some were sold at the cabaret evening

and two were won by Rebecca Campbell at the village shop, where they have been turned into a gnome naming competition. They are rapidly turning into a cult item and to ensure you save them from the encircling pantomime baddies, go along to the shop and enter. Others may be appearing during the Jubilee festivities, watch out for them, grab them while you can, you could be the only person in the village without one.
