What a magnificent result from Jill and Hazel`s Time for a Cuppa, in aid of Admiral Nurses, last Saturday.

The event which saw our village hall crowded with supporters raised £1,125, up on last year`s total, despite tee being fewer people there. The hall looked so inviting, with tables set out for coffee with bright table cloths and spring flowers.

All the stalls and the raffle attracted lots of custom, with the cakes and refreshments a special treat. The organisers would like to thank everyone who came and spent so generously.

This Friday Lunch Club meets as usual at 12 noon for lunch at 12.30 pm in the village hall.

At 2.30pm the annual Women`s World Day of Prayer is held in the church with the theme Let Justice Prevail, prepared by the Christian women of Malaysia. The booklet for the service tells us that Malaysia consists of two parts, West Malaysia, including Singapore and the capital, Kuala Lumpur and East Malaysia, with Kuching. It is a land of rainforests that produces timber, tea, palm oil and rubber and some of the largest flowers and butterflies in the world.

The service is interdenominational and everyone is welcome to join in a very special service that opens our eyes to the very different lives of women who share our faith. Afterwards refreshments are served and there is time to talk.

The service on Sunday will be Parish Communion at 9.15 am, as the Family Communion will be saved for Mothering Sunday. Parish Magazines will be delivered round the village and be on sale in the village shop and the church this week.

The AGM of the Village Hall Committee will be held in the village hall on Thursday March 15th at 7.30 pm. At present there is a vacancy for an elected member to join the exisitng team running the very successful village hall, If you feel you could devote a little of your time to attending the seven meetings a year and contribute to this vital part of village life, please call Ann Davey, on 830 477, who will tell you more about the work of the Village Hall Committee and give you a nomination form.

Those of us who walk our dogs on the Playing field or play football will have noticed the two smart, secure sheds that have been put up for essential storage. What an improvement on the old wooden huts - all in time for the celebrations for the Queen`s Jubilee.
