Catsfield village voice - March 30

On Saturday the 31st, there is a Jumble Sale in Crowhurst Village Hall in aid of St George`s Church from 10 am until 12 noon. Entry is 20p and there will be refreshments. Parking at the Village Hall opposite the church is free.

On Thursday the 5th, Catsfield WI will celebrate their 94th birthday in the village hall at 2.30 pm. Come along and join us if you can, as it will be a good opportunity to see how much we enjoy ourselves.There will be entertainment from Marco the Magician, a super tea prepared by the committee and a lovely birthday cake baked and decorated by Ann Clegg. Best of all, we shall be in the company of old friends, enjoying the news of the ESFWI meeting at Eastbourne on Wednesday and the plans for the month ahead.

Everyone in the WI will be delighted to hear that our Jumble Sale last Saturday made £275 for our charity for 2012, Admiral Nurses and £75 for our WI from the sale of cakes. What a well organised event it was, with the eager queue forming from the small hours and almost everything saleable, sold by 10.30 am. By 12 o`clock the hall was clear and the weary organisers on their way home, well pleased with their efforts.

Thanks to everyone who supported us so generously.

Packed into a crowded calendar of events raising money for the Jubilee came the production of the play, Running for Glory, celebrating the Olympics, last Thursday.

There was a hushed silence as the last, poignant words of the Chalkfoot production were spoken, before the applause broke out. Once again, we experienced a beautifully crafted, original play, written and researched by Philip Dart, that followed the careers of the two 1924 Olympic runners, Harald Abrahams and Eric Liddell. The simulated races against the backdrop of the race track and the exigencies of training were contrasted with the social and religious backgrounds of the two men in sharply perceived episodes.there were wonderful opportunities for the actors and shafts of humour that captivated the audience.

What a great evening it was - everyone agreed - congratulations to the talented dedicated people who made it possible.

This Sunday we shall celebrate Palm Sunday, at the usual time, 9.15 am, in preparation for the events of Holy Week. Parish magazines will be in the village with a calendar of all the services next weekend.
