Cavan raises £730

The Community Charity Walk has been staged for a number of years, but this year Bexhill Rotary was fortunate enough to have the backing of The Bexhill Observer and The Sackville Partnership

A new trophy, The Observer-Sackville Partnership Challenge Cup, was offered to the walker who raised the most money for their chosen charity. Also, The Sackville Partnership pledged "a substantial donation" to the winner's charity.

Cavan O'Connor took part in the walk on Sunday 10th June and raised 730 for the 9th Bexhill Scout Group, which had suffered serious loss when their scout hut and all the contents were destroyed by fire earlier this year. This amounts to about 48 per mile, the total for the day is expected to be around 20,000, and just shows how much can be raised on this event. (Although all the returns are not yet in, records show that Cavan has raised the most). In May, Bexhill Rotary pledged another 200 to help purchase replacement equipment.

The "substantial donation" referred to by Malcolm Mitcheson of the Sackville Partnership (Pictured left) was, in fact, a sum equal to that raised by Cavan's sponsorship.
