The inaugural Celebrating Brightling Day will take place on Sunday June 2 and will take the form of a guided tour around the Sussex squire’s structures.

The tour will start at Brightling Village Hall at 11am.

The tour will stop off at Coade stone summerhouse and the temple in Brightling Park before taking in the history of the cricket club.

The tour will conclude with a visit to Jack Fuller’s pyramid.

The 25 foot high mausoleum built in 1811, twenty-three years before his death, stands in the churchyard of St Thomas à Becket, Brightling.

Fuller is buried beneath the pyramid.

The tour will return to the village hall for a two course Sunday dinner, with a bar available.

The event is part of a national initiative which encourages neighbourhoods across the UK to get together once a year for lunch, in a bid to continue the good feeling generated by last year’s Diamond Jubilee.

Celebrating Brightling Day is being organised by the Brightling Village Hall Committee.

Tickets are £10 (to include tour and dinner, but not drinks) and are available from committee secretary Jane Beard on 01424 838352.

Tickets have been sold to people from as far afield as Bexhill and Tonbridge

Jane said: “We have had a good response. We can accommodate about 90 and we have only got 20-30 tickets left.”

She added: “We are trying to raise money for the village hall because we want to bring it in to 2013.”
