Celebrating Community Transport roadshow hits Rother and Hastings

COMMUNITY transport providers from across the region will visit eight towns in East Sussex next week, including Battle, Bexhill and Hastings, in a bid to encourage people to use the services or volunteer to help run them.

Volunteers from the community transport operators will be on hand to talk to passers-by about the services they run, which include door-to-door shopping services, bus hire for special trips such as theatre or leisure activities, fun events to get people involved with their railways, and schemes to improve local station facilities and access.

The bus service can be particularly useful for those who find it difficult to wait at a bus stop or maybe need help to get on the bus.

There are more than 30 community transport schemes currently operating throughout East Sussex.

And the roadshow will return to Rother on September 27 at Bexhill’s Farmers Market in Devonshire Square.

Bexhill Community Transport and Bexhill Caring Community will be available between 9.30am-2pm.

Jan Cutting from Rother Voluntary Action, which is organising the week in conjunction with 3VA and Hastings Voluntary Action on behalf of the Community Transport Operators Forum, said: “Following the successful Celebrating Community Transport week last September we are happy to be organising another week of events around East Sussex again this year.

“Community transport is there for us all to use and the events are designed to be local so that local people can find out what is available close to their homes. Many of the services are looking for volunteers and this is a fantastic way of giving some time to your community.”

Celebrating Community Transport is supported by East Sussex County Council, which offers advice and support to local transport groups.
