Theatre spokeswoman Hazel Latus said: “We are all very excited about the new Friends of the Regis Centre scheme.

“A lot of other theatres run similar successful schemes and we think we will be able to do the same.

“It is a very exciting step for the theatre.”

Mrs Latus said she hoped the new initiative would see more patrons flocking to the Belmont Street theatre.

“I really hope the scheme will encourage more people to visit the Regis Centre and take advantage of everything we have to offer.

“We already have a couple of high profile friends such as Ben Richards and Kevin King who have both promised their support.

“It really is a case of the more the merrier.

“The launch night will be a special occasion and we hope plenty of people come to enjoy it,” said Mrs Latus.

The new scheme will have several benefits for friends including priority booking, a ten per cent discount at its seaside cafe, regular newsletters, the chance to attend exclusive events and backstage tours.

It costs £20 to become a friend and a discounted rate of £30 for a joint membership is available, and if you join on the official launch night, you will receive a £5 reduction.

All friends will be given a membership card which will last for one year.

Mrs Latus said: “We wanted to make it as affordable as possible for people to join up.

“It is a great way to support the Regis Centre and the Alexandra theatre, whilst taking advantage of the variety of performances we have on offer.

“We have so much going on and so many different shows for people to enjoy.

“Up coming performances like Beauty and the Beast, the Fabulous Shadows and Joe Longthorne will be brilliant entertainment,” added Mrs Latus.

The launch event will be packed with entertainment, including snippets from Beauty and the Beast and Oliver! as well as energetic performances from Art of Dance and Fitness and T21.

Entertainment for the foyer is also planned and refreshments should be served in the cafe.

Tickets to the event cost £5 and the fun starts at 6.45pm.
