Images of Sir Peter Blake and Sir Ian McKellen, along with Derek Jarman and Muhammad Ali, will be just a few of the great names featured at the 2015 Hastings Arts Forum’s annual auction tomorrow (Saturday).
Pieces by or of these luminaries are among the lots for sale at the forum, of which there will be more than a hundred on offer.
John Cole, from Hastings Arts Forum, said: “The auction is a great opportunity for the public to buy the work of established artists, as well as investing in up-and-coming artists in the area. Taking part in the auction is easy – and good fun.
“The annual auction has been running for more than five years and has grown exponentially every year. Last year there was literally standing room only. The forum is extremely pleased to announce that last year’s auctioneer, Martin Phillips, will be back to run the show in his irrepressibly exuberant manner.”
The works of art are available for viewing before the actual sale begins, so anyone who wants to get in early is advised to get down to the forum to have a look. Or, to have a look online at what will be going under the hammer, go to the forum website, www.hastingsartsforum.co.uk, and click Download a copy on the right side of the home page.
Mr Cole added: “Proceeds from the auction will help to raise money for Hastings Arts Forum, one of the leading community arts organisations in the south east of England, so that it can continue its role as a major arts centre, as well as promoting arts education and training.
“Members of the Hastings and St Leonards arts community have generously donated all of the artwork in the auction. It is the generosity of spirit of these people that sustains the forum in its continuing vitality and increasing range of activities throughout the community.”
The auction at the forum, in Marina, St Leonards, starts at 2pm.
