Centenary launch opens new era

THE CENTENARY year of Bexhill's Incorporation as a borough was launched officially at a special exhibition, fair and lecture event at the De La Warr Pavilion.

Town Mayor Councillor Mrs Joanne Gadd, said: "There is much to admire in the spirit and events of 1902 but it should be an inspiration for the future and not a sense of wanting to go back to, or re-live a lost age."

She added: "We must look to the future and the next 100 years. What the town should now look to achieve is to recapture some of that sense of hope, drive and self-confidence that Bexhill had in 1902 and use it in the regeneration of the town."

Incorporation, said Cllr Gadd, was a means of lifting the status of Bexhill, increasing its prosperity and enhancing a sense of the community, aspirations that were still appropriate now.
