VINTAGE CAR DAY: Each year The Lamb, at Piltdown, hosts one of the best car shows in Sussex and this year it is on Sunday. It showcases vintage, prestige and supercars from all over the county and is a fantastic day for the whole family with children’s activities, bouncy castle, beer festival, Pimms tent, stalls, barbecue, hog roast, live jazz and so much more. The day raises money for two very deserving local charities, St Peter and St James Hospice and Chailey Heritage Foundation. MUSEUM: The Windmill and Rural Life Museum will be open on Sunday from 3pm to 5pm. Entry is £1 for adults and 50p for children aged 10 to 16 years. For more details call John Smith on 01825 723519.

CHAILEY BONFIRE SOCIETY: The organising committee continues to diminish and all roles need replacing; secretary, treasurer, fundraisers and of course those that plan, build and deliver the display. The hard fact is that without a committee there will be no bonfire celebrations in Chailey in 2017. The decision whether the Society continues is in your hands and if you are prepared to do something to help this Society please give the chair Chris Farrow a call on 07867 822492 or email him at [email protected]. PARISH COUNCILLOR VACANCY: The parish council proposes to fill a vacancy by co-option and if you wish to be considered as a candidate for Parish Councillor you will need a brief curriculum vitae along with a written explanation of why you wish to join the Council and the skills and experience that you have that will contribute to the work of the Council. REWARDING PART TIME ROLE: Are you looking for a role which does not require child care arrangements (if that is a consideration for you). Then why not work at Chailey Heritage Foundation as a Lunchtime Assistant and assist with the general welfare, social care and educational support within the learning environment during lunch times. This includes assisting children with their lunch, personal care, providing a positive and fulfilling experience with a variety of activities and joining a very dedicated team. This position is part time working Monday to Friday 11.30am to 2.15pm during term time. Applications are welcomed at any time The Heritage are currently also recruiting for Teaching Assistants to join the school in September 2016. The Teaching Assistant role is vital in ensuring that the very complex and disabled children can go to school, to learn, make friends and have fun. It is hard work, and requires commitment, but it is a hugely fulfilling job and can bring real joy. WORKING WEEKEND: South Eastern Vintage Agricultural Club have a Working Weekend at Townings Farm, Chailey, on Saturday and Sunday September 3 and 4 from 10am to 4pm so this is a chance to see vintage machinery in action. In addition as this is part of the Farm’s Vintage Harvest Fair there will be rural crafts, sheep shearing demonstrations and spinning, hedge laying, tractor and trailer rides, information about bee keeping, beer tent, refreshments, local produce, butchery demonstrations and special offers in the farm shop. Newick Folk will be playing on both days. Entry is £5 per adult (a weekend pass £8 per adult) and children free. Camping is available at £5 per tent and £6 per caravan. LITTLE KICKERS: Is a fun introduction to football for 5, 6 and 7 year olds and takes place every Saturday morning at Chailey Common Sports Club starting on Saturday September 3. CHANGING SEASONS: An exhibition at Sheffield Park and Garden continues until Sunday September 4. This exhibition by the Nature Corridors for All group is a chance to explore the changing of the seasons and see the work involved in restoring the Capability Brown landscape with this. BRIGHTON GREYHOUND TRUST: Is the subject of the Women’s Institute meeting, at the village hall, on September 5. As usual guests or prospective members are very welcome to this meeting. RIDE AND STRIDE: Takes place on Saturday September 10 and you can raise funds for a very special chapel, St Martin’s Chapel at Chailey Heritage Foundation. This can be done by walking, running, cycling or horse riding between churches across Sussex. The Foundation is also looking for volunteers to ‘man’ the Chapel from 10am to 5pm. PLAYING WITH PERSPECTIVE: The trail at Sheffield Park and Garden and continues until Sunday September 11. Excite your senses on this interactive trail involving mirrors, sounds and textures and see the garden from a whole new perspective. Normal admission applies.

FIND OUT MORE DAY: There is a Find Out More Day on Sunday September 11 and anyone, skilled or unskilled, who can offer a day a month or more to the Bluebell Railway are invited to find out more about volunteering in our various departments. WILL WRITING FORTNIGHT: Chailey Heritage Foundation is holding its first Will Writing Fortnight from September 12 to 23 and this is supported by local solicitors firms who have kindly agreed to waive their fees for writing simple single or joint wills, or adding a Codicil to an existing will. In order to participate it is asked that you make a donation to Chailey Heritage Foundation. To add a codicil to an existing will, they ask for £75, for a single will £120 and for a joint will £180.By participating in the scheme they hope that you will consider remembering Chailey Heritage Foundation in your will, although you are under no obligation to do so. A gift in your will would have a lasting impact, providing vital support for future generations of children and young people, no matter what the challenges.
