Chailey

INFORMATION NEEDED: A black mini cooper convertible, parked in South Chailey between 6.30pm on January 9 and 9.15pm on January 10 had its roof slashed. Also there has been a theft from a store within the grounds of Broadstone Farm, North Chailey. Bolt croppers were used to gain access and a Stihl strimmer, Husquavana hedge trimmer and Stihl chainsaw. There is a long time frame as the theft could have occurred before Christmas. Did you hear or see anything? Do you know who may be responsible for these crimes? Sadly also a shipping container at Wapsbourne Manor Farm has been broken into and a Husquavana Chainsaw stolen. The time frame is thought to be from 5.30pm on the January 7 and 4.45pm on January 8. An angle grinder would have been required to breach the locking device used to secure the unit. This is a rural location and it is unlikely that there would be witnesses, however if you are offered an item like this for sale in suspicious circumstances, please let the police know. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police by email at [email protected] or call 101 (calls cost a flat rate of 15p per call).

WEBSITE: A new parish website (www.chailey.org) went live on January 1. First comments confirm their hope that the site will be easier to use, will be attractive and will provide a portal to the many activities which are typical of Chailey’s community. Thanks go to the Web Administrator, Cllr Stephen Avery, who has been responsible for seeing this project through and everyone is grateful to him for the work he has done to exploit the potential of the site. Secretaries of Society will want to note that the site includes a facility to record forthcoming events. Secretaries are required to notify the Web Administrator (on 01825 724486 or at [email protected]) of the date of any public event they wish to record, the Administrator will place a ‘sell by’ date on the record which will be automatically deleted after that date. The various Headings list individual societies, organisations and clubs, and enable you to click through to the site of an individual society.

PHOTOGRAPHS: The parish council has a small collection of photographs of the village but would like to establish a photo gallery, on the new website. If you have a photograph that can be copied or information and advice, especially in regard to the exceptional number of listed buildings which stand in Chailey please contact the Web Administrator, as your assistance will be much appreciated.
