CHAILEY HERITAGE: From children’s home to soldier’s hospital. Chailey Heritage in the First World War. On Thursday February 4 Chailey Heritage Foundation is opening its doors to the local community for a captivating talk on its history, and an opportunity to learn about the work the charity does today. Established in 1903, Chailey Heritage Foundation has a fascinating history supporting children and young people with a range of conditions such as tuberculosis, rickets, and polio, even treating injured soldiers during both World Wars. Guest speaker, Dr Julie Anderson, Reader in the History of Modern Medicine at the University of Kent, will talk about Chailey Heritage Foundation’s pioneering approach to the rehabilitation of soldiers injured in the First World War. After the talk, guests will have an opportunity to have a look round some of the facilities, meet some of the charity’s beneficiaries and speak to its dedicated staff. The event will take place at Chailey Heritage Foundation, Haywards Heath Road, North Chailey, between 6pm and 8pm and is free of charge but numbers are limited. HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY: The society gathering is at the village hall on Saturday February 6 from 2.30pm to 5pm. All welcome and it is a chance to join the society and receive the Schedule for the three shows. You are sure to get some excellent gardening tips, as well as advice on exhibiting. At the same time you can enjoy delicious homemade refreshments.

ENTHUSIASTIC RUNNERS: Are sought to take part in the Brighton Half Marathon, on Sunday February 28, and raise funds for Chailey Heritage Foundation. It’s a great way to get fit after the excesses of Christmas. They have three places to allocate in the Brighton Half Marathon and the registration fee for this event is £30 per person with a minimum sponsorship target of £250 per person. Please contact Chailey Heritage Foundation at [email protected] or call on 01825 724444 Ext 718 for further details. Their deadline for entries is mid-January. The Foundation will provide a branded running vest or t-shirt, and will offer support in the lead up to the event by providing sponsorship forms, advice on how to set up a JustGiving Page and leaflets about their work. Chailey Heritage Foundation is a pioneering charity dedicated to enriching the lives of young people with complex physical disabilities and health needs. They rely on charitable donations to fund the specialist equipment and facilities needed to enable these young people to reach their potential.
