Chance to bid for a share of £190k grant

VOLUNTARY and community organisations can now apply for a grants programme funding community-based activities for adults and older people.

The application process for this year’s West Sussex County Council prevention and wellbeing grants programme opened this week. Voluntary and community organisations can apply for up to £5,000 out of a total pot of £190,000.

“One of the key aims is for people to get out, make friends and see others,” said a county council spokesman.

“This could include arts and crafts, quizzes or computer courses.”

Organisations will receive feedback and payment in August once the applications have been assessed by the relevant county local committees.

Last year, awards ranged from £170 to £5,000 and ranged from awards for lunch club equipment to venue costs for support groups.

Peter Catchpole, member for health and adult services, said: “These community-based services and activities will contribute to the aims of our prevention and well-being agenda. The grants can be for small or large projects and support social aspects of an individual’s life and aid people not to feel isolated.”
