The charity will be airing weekly live broadcasts from later this month, featuring cats currently in the care of its National Cat Adoption Centre in Sussex – the largest of its kind in the UK.

The short broadcasts, presented by staff at the centre, will be available to watch live on Periscope, a free livestreaming app available on both Android and iOS.

Cats Protection’s Social Media Manager Gemma Croker said the service would allow people to see cats available for homing at the centre as well giving cat lovers a glimpse of life at one of the UK’s biggest animal rehoming centres.

She said: “We already know social media like Facebook is brilliant for helping to find new owners for the cats in our care and we’re always looking for new ways to reach out to even more people looking to adopt a cat.

“Our Periscope broadcasts are presented by staff at the centre who introduce viewers to some of the cats in our care.

“Viewers get the chance to see the cats in a relaxed atmosphere, interacting with our staff or resting in their pens. It’s a great way to get a feel for the cats in our care and the closest thing to meeting them without physically coming to the centre.

“Of course, you don’t need to be looking to adopt a cat to enjoy the live streams. Many of our supporters and fellow cat lovers love to see the cats in our care and find out more about our work, and this is the perfect place to start.

“The broadcasts are completely live, so as is always the case when working with animals – anything could happen! But we know anyone who loves cats will really enjoy seeing our feline friends just being themselves.”

Cats Protection will be broadcasting its live streams via Periscope on the following dates at 10am: 12 April, 18 April, 25 April, 2 May, 17 May and 23 May. There will also be a broadcast at 1pm on 10 May.
