Chance to hear plans for historic Yapton pub

RESIDENTS have been encouraged to attend a meeting on the planned development of an historic Yapton pub.

The special meeting of Yapton Parish Council’s planning committee will take place on October 8.

The public meeting will start at 7.30pm in Yapton and Ford Village Hall, and feature a presentation from developer Orchard Homes and Developments and Punch Taverns on their revised plans for The Lamb Inn.

The developers’ previous plans to replace the 200-year-old pub with housing were rejected on July 25 by Arun District Council’s development control committee.

Councillors voted by nine votes to nil, with two abstentions, to refuse the permission.

They said the proposal to build some 14 homes was too cramped for the Bilsham Road plot.

Committee members were also unhappy some of the houses’ front doors opened directly on to the pavement.

Concerns the scheme would have an over-bearing impact on the neighbouring property of Well House were also voiced.

The council had received a 115-name petition to save the pub as well as 49 individual letters of objection

The site’s location just outside the built-up area boundary of Yapton, meant development was unacceptable in principle. But it could have been justified by helping to maintain the
five-year supply of housing land.

Residents are encouraged to go along to the meeting and listen to the plans.
