Chance to see steam giants

GIANT Victorian steam engines will be in action once again when Brede Steam Engine Society holds the next of its popular Open Day events on Saturday March 1.

The Society has spent years restoring the engines to their former glory.

They are housed in the old waterworks building in the Brede Valley and were once used to draw water from below the valley floor to supply Hastings and the surrounding area.

Also on show are historical records from the area.

The open day runs from 10am - 4pm and is free to attend.

Refreshments will be available and there is ample free parking.

John Foxley. from Brede Steam Engine Society, said: “Come along and enjoy water pumping heritage engineering at its British best.”

The waterworks are signposted from the A28 at the top of Brede Hill, next to St George’s Church.

Open days take place on the first Saturday of each month.
