Chantry School celebrations

Marching girls and baton twirlers from the Lisa Carmen School of Dance put on a cheerful display during the summer fair held at Chantry Community Primary School on Saturday.

The rain held off as everyone appreciated outdoor fun in the school playground - apart from the barbecue and its obvious delights, there was face-painting, treasure map, strawberries and cream, toy stall and biscuit decorating for children and parents to enjoy.

A bouncy slide was installed by Bounce Around, and youngsters also tried out Hook A Duck, fancy dress, and the sweet tombola.

The event was officially opened by Deputy Mayor Patrick Douart who managed to polish off two burgers during his visit which he said was "most enjoyable."

The summer fair was organised by Claire Holland, who has been chairman of Chantry PTA during the last school year.

She commented: "I would like to thank all the parents for their donations and for attending.

"Luckily the weather held up, but you have only got to look around the playground to see that people are dressed for every eventuality...

"It all seems to be going very well. This is a very small school, so to get the support that we do is really great. We always want more members in the PTA, especially now that we are losing three valued members whose children will be leaving us to go to the High School - Sharon Sayers, Angela Griffin and Jenny Brockhurst - so we are looking for people who are willing to come along and be a member, but two have offered today to come along which is nice.

"We are raising funds for the school. We have just paid for lighting and a new sound system which is what we raised funds for last time, so now this is just about replenishing funds. Whatever the school needs we raise funds for, and seeing as it is such as small school I think we do pretty well."

A small but perfectly formed team from Bexhill fire station was on hand to show children around the fire appliance parked in the school yard.

Fire officer Ady Carrick commented: "We love doing this - it is nice to see the kids enjoying themselves; it's what we are here for."
