Charities' bid to beat slump

A recession-busting day for charities is to be held in Bognor Regis.

The fundraising training workshop will take place on February 12 for members of the Arun Neighbourhood Network (ANN).

All of them are involved in improving life for older people and to promote independence for those in their later years.

Fundraising consultant Andrew Silver will stage the workshop. He said: "Now we are in recession, many charities are seeing a downturn in income not only from the public but from charitable trusts.

"Fundraising is going to be more challenging than usual and even more so for organisations who haven't done it before."

Andrew is the community fundraising consultant for the network and this will be his first event in Bognor. The network of about 100 organisations is a partnership of Age Concern, Council for Voluntary Service-Arunwide, 4Sight and the Alzheimer's Society.

As well as delivering training, Andrew gives direct help to people to enable them to write grant applications or get fundraising strategies in place.
