Alfriston’s annual “Beating the Bounds” walk is scheduled for Christian Aid Week.
While most walkers choose to use this as an opportunity to raise sponsorship for Christian Aid, anyone wanting to join for all or part of the walk will be very welcome, including dogs and children.
The walk starts at 8.20am in Alfriston at the junction of Kings Ride and The Broadway.
For a Christian Aid sponsorship form or if you have questions about the walk email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01323 871592.
The walk will start by heading west along the South Downs Way before turning south towards the edge of Seaford. This stretch is just under five miles, with an optional extension to Five Lords’ Burgh.
There will be a short break at the “Welcome to Seaford” sign on Alfriston Road, before walkers set off again soon after 11.30, having been joined by those catching the 11.30 Ramblerbus from Alfriston.
This three-mile section heads down to the Cuckmere and back to Alfriston along the riverbank with the aim of reaching Alfriston at 1.45pm.
In the afternoon the walk begins from the Market Cross at 2.30pm for a four-mile circuit towards Berwick and then a final climb back up to the ridge of the Downs. The total route (the morning and afternoon sections, excluding the diversion to Five Lords Burgh) is around 12 miles.
As in previous years, guest speakers will point out historical and archaeological features in the morning. It is hoped one of the speakers will be a National Trust representative.
