Alice Brown has organised for a number of musicians and dancers to perform at Claverham Community College on February 5.

The concert is in aid of Believe in You, a charity based in St Leonards that helps young adults deal with mental health issues including depression and anxiety.

The charity helped Alice get through ‘the worst’ of a period of depression five years ago and she wanted to raise some money for them.

“Five years ago, they helped me get through the worst of my depression and anxiety so as it’s five years, I thought I should give something back,” she said.

“I quite enjoy organising stuff and music has always been a big part of my life so I’m just doing what I enjoy.”

When Alice says music is a big part of her life, she means it: she plays grade six flute, the guitar, piano and is in an orchestra and part of St Mary’s Church Choir.

Her father Andy said the loss of Alice’s grandparents as well as his and her mother Tanya’s divorce caused her a lot of distress.

But Believe in You helped her get through it and Andy said he was inspired by Alice’s commitment to give something back and that he is a ‘very proud dad’.

“I’m over the moon with her which something I don’t get to tell her often,” he said.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to bits and am a very proud dad, we’re very proud of both of them.”

Alice’s 17-year-old sister Lucy goes to Eastbourne College and she has been very supportive by gathering musicians from her school to play at the concert.

Both sisters will be performing at the concert.

Claverham has also given her its blessing as principal Paul Swatton invited parents to come to the concert in an email.

The concert starts at 7pm and tickets are £3 each, with all proceeds going to Believe in You. Refreshments will be available.
