Charity on crest of a wave after raising £2,000

A local charity raised over £2,500 at their refreshment stall at Bexhill’s Festival of the Sea last weekend and were thrilled by the result.

St Michael’s Hospice, St Leonards on Sea, received a complimentary pitch at the event - hailed as the biggest festival of sea and angling in the South East. The St Michael’s team sold a range of scrumptious cakes, teas, and coffees which were well received by thousands of visitors at the event.

Sally Beresford, Community Fundraiser at St Michael’s Hospice, said: “The Hospice were delighted to receive a complimentary pitch and were delighted to be part of this amazing event. We are delighted to announce our stall at this year’s Bexhill Festival of the Sea raised over £2,500 for the Hospice!

“Over the weekend over 1,000 cups of tea and coffee were made and more than 500 servings of cakes were sold! There was a fantastic atmosphere and everyone had a great time! The weather was superb, the visitors lovely and our tent volunteers simply brilliant, all in all it really was a great day.”

Sally said over £1,500 was raised in refreshments and Barclays Bank donated a further £1,000 via their “wonderful matched giving fund.”

St Michael’s Hospice provides in-patient and out-reach palliative care to people with life-limiting illnesses across Hastings and Rother.

Specialist care and clinical teams deliver supportive care, symptom control and support to patients and families through the 30-bed hospice, Day Therapy centre, Hospice at Home service, Bereavement Support and Hospice Neighbours.

Operating for 25 years St Michael’s aim to deliver exceptional standards of palliative care and provide a responsive service that supports choice and independence.

The Hospice operates a donation Centre in St Leonards on Sea and 10 retail shops in, Battle, Bexhill on Sea, Hastings, Ore, Rye, Sidley and St Leonards on Sea, stocking items from second hand clothes and baby wear to furniture and St Michael’s Hospice merchandise.
