Worthing Cat Welfare is looking to raise £1,800 for charity welfare officer Jackie Riddles after her car was written off in the accident.

The accident occurred on November 30 while she was taking three feral cats to a shelter in Selsey, Chichester.

Neither Jackie or the three cats were injured in the accident.

Vice chairman of the animal rescue charity Sue Lipman has now launched a Just Giving fundraising page to replace Jackie’s car.

She said: “Jackie has been with us since we started 21 years ago. She has been the welfare officer for the charity for about six years now.

“She always uses her own car when she takes cats to shelters and recently she was involved in an accident.

“We don’t know whose fault it was but the insurance company will only pay out £800 for the damages.

“Therefore, we have set up this fundraising with the target of £1,800 to cover the difference for her new car.”

The charity are currently looking to buy a ten year old Nissan Micra priced at £2,600.

The Just Giving page was set up on Thursday and has so far raised (£410) with 23 days to go.

Sue added: “Her role as a welfare officer is not just about rehoming cats, it’s far more involved. She ensures that any elderly person who adopts or fosters a cat is well supported and this may include several home visits.

“She is often on hand for any un-foreseen situation involving any cat that comes to the charity’s attention.

“It would be great if we could hit this target because Jackie uses her car for her freedom.

“We are all volunteers here so any help would be greatly received.”
